Millennials are having a moment as we hurtle towards middle age. So, how did I end up writing a book set in 2009 that involves wellness maybe-cults, evangelical megachurch Christianity, and a desperate post-recession job search?
The video above is a look under the hood at what was going through my head as I wrote it. Rafael and I had a fantastic conversation that ended up building on my thoughts about the belief and cynicism cycles of women of a certain age. We also discussed how we can write about collectively traumatic things like the Great Recession of 2008-2009 (or even the pandemic) without making it a one-dimensional trauma novel. I quoted Pumbaa from “The Lion King” in my response.
